The Lighthouse Witches by C. J. Cooke

A bit of a slow start had me struggling with this book but once it got going, wow.

The story sets scene in a superstitious and claustrophobic little Scottish island called Lon Haven.

Olivia has brought her three daughters here for work, what follows is a dip into the history of the island dating back to the witch hunts which slowly melts into the present in a very surprising way. 

The main plot line of the story was not something I expected but found oddly satisfying and was pleased with the well rounded end.

The characters were described nicely and I warmed to one or two of them, especially Finn and Cassie.

Slow at first but then picking up the pace, this is a solid novel that’s worth a read.

Caduceus by Sarah England

A perfect sequel to the thrilling novel Masquerade.
Beth Harper, a medium and cleanser of demons returns with Jeannie, the young girl she rescued, for a fresh adventure.
The new setting was refreshing and the story was fast paced with good descriptions and spookiness.
I love the character of Beth but I also loved her new detective friend, I hope he pops up again at some point.
This authors writing style is perfect for me and I can’t wait until the next book in the series.

Masquerade by S. E. England

Another great, spooky read by S. E. England, who is fast becoming one of my favourite Authors.
The newly introduced Beth is a very interesting and detailed character who I can’t wait to read more about.
Her adventures are well written and set an eerie scene, especially in the village which on the front seems quaint and cosy but underneath the facade lays a depraved darkness which Beth has to get to the bottom of.
The story is fast paced and dark, with good descriptions and a claustrophobic feel throughout.
I look forward to reading more novels featuring this heroine!

False Witness by Karin Slaughter

Another great novel from Karin Slaughter!
An edge of your seat thriller that deals well with many touchy subjects like child and drug abuse.
The characters of both Leigh and Callie were strong and determined whilst also being scared, weak and at times childish.
I could fully relate.
Everything came together well at the end to wrap up another great scene!

The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall

A very easy to read, pleasant story that had a nice friendship moral.

The characters were well written, turning previously disliked people to favourites.

The background was lighthearted and occasionally funny and the novel was original and stood out from the genre.

The Rising Tide by Sam Lloyd

What a brilliant but heartbreaking book, kept me wondering just what had happened until the very end.

I fully sympathised with the well written characters and was hoping for the best throughout.

The bleak backdrop with the added storm set the perfect scene for such tragedy and the pace of the story was perfect, just when I thought I’d figured something out, another curveball was thrown.

I’ll definitely read more from this author!

Every Little Breath by Keri Beevis

A tense dark thriller that kept me in the edge of my seat throughout.

Some really good twists and turns that I never saw coming kept my interest high.

I loved the characters especially Finn and Casey, they were really well written and I truly felt for them.

Fast paced and descriptive, this novel ticked all the right boxes for me.

Definitely recommend.
